Located not far from the coast of Sada, on the west coast of Mayotte, the northern pass of the sector is a site that impresses with the power of its relief. Less frequented than some of the southern passes, it offers a unique dive for those seeking rugged topography and raw sensations.
The unique feature of Passe Sada Nord is its deep crevasses. These faults in the drop-off create an unusual diving dynamic, with light effects and counter-currents. These are not tunnels or penetrable formations, but rocky fractures where wildlife finds refuge and divers can explore while keeping their distance.
Diving is generally carried out at moderate depths (between 20 and 30 metres), but the complexity of the terrain requires good technical skills.
The presence of counter-currents, which are common at this site, makes diving here a sporting challenge. These water movements attract many pelagic fish and passing predators, creating a dynamic and unpredictable ecosystem.
Green turtles, lionfish, trevally and sometimes even barracuda come to feed near the drop-off. Underwater photographers will appreciate the diversity of the surroundings: calm, hollowed-out areas followed by sudden rises and plays of light on the walls.
Given the structure of the site and the varying currents, Passe Sada Nord is reserved for divers who are already comfortable diving independently or with partial assistance. A minimum PE40 level and good physical condition are recommended to enjoy the exploration in complete safety.
This site is rarely offered for free exploration but can be included in tailor-made tours organised by the Lagon Maore nautical centre depending on the weather and the level of the group.
