Passe Bouéni Sud: a striking contrast between sand and coral

Located southwest of Mayotte, Passe Bouéni Sud is a popular diving site for the Lagon Maore teams. This pass offers a rare balance between accessibility, beautiful seabeds and unforgettable encounters with marine life. While some passes are renowned for their vertiginous drop-offs, Passe Bouéni Sud first captivates visitors with its beauty: the contrast between the white sandbanks and coral formations creates a luminous, almost surreal diving atmosphere.

A site sculpted by light

The first thing you notice when you enter the water is the clarity of the seabed. The white sand reflects the natural light and gives the entire underwater landscape a soft, almost milky hue. The brightly coloured coral formations appear to be literally illuminated.

The topography of the site is gentler than that of other southern passes. You dive at depths of between 10 and 25 metres over accessible reliefs, making it an ideal spot for exploration dives, training or even first dives in a natural environment once you have passed your first dive.

Amazing wildlife at shallow depths

Among the frequent encounters at Passe Bouéni Sud, baby coral sharks occupy a special place. They are often seen at shallow depths, usually resting on the sand in the first few metres. They are harmless and peaceful, but their presence never fails to amaze.

In addition to coral sharks, the site is home to a beautiful diversity of tropical fish, small rays, green turtles and colourful invertebrates nestled in the coral formations. Attentive divers will be able to spot scorpion fish, lionfish and well-camouflaged nudibranchs.

An accessible but dynamic site

Despite its open topography and shallow depths, Passe Bouéni Sud is not a site without currents. Certain tides can generate more challenging conditions, making the site temporarily inaccessible. This is why trips are always organised according to the weather and sea conditions. But in good conditions, it is a site to be enjoyed for the natural beauty of the Mayotte seabed in a peaceful atmosphere.

Ideal for all levels

One of the great advantages of Passe Bouéni Sud is its versatility. Beginner divers will find it reassuring, while more experienced divers can immerse themselves in wildlife observation or underwater photography. It is also an ideal site for technical training thanks to its open areas, visual landmarks and stable decompression stops.
