Passe Bateau Nord: a dive into the deep blue sea

Located near the village of Kani-Kéli, Passe Bateau Nord is one of the most impressive sites in Mayotte. This is where experienced divers come to test their skills in vertical and deep waters, in an environment where marine encounters are as striking as the relief features.

A spectacular double drop-off

The site consists of two major drop-offs. The first, classic, slopes gently between 15 and 40 metres. But the second is a technical dive, plunging to a depth of 40 to 90 metres. A majestic rock formation, reserved for divers with advanced Nitrox certification or appropriate technical skills.

The architecture of the seabed creates a dizzying sensation and offers photographic opportunities that are rare in Mayotte.

The kingdom of sharks

Passe Bateau Nord is known for its frequent encounters with sharks. On two out of three dives, divers are lucky enough to see blacktip reef sharks, sometimes joined by other more impressive pelagic species.

These encounters often occur at mid-depth, in areas where light still filters in from the surface, creating a powerful, almost cinematic atmosphere.

A site for technical training

This is where Lagon Maore organises some of its confirmed Nitrox deep dives, allowing divers to apply their skills in a real-life environment. The variations in currents and depth make Passe Bateau Nord a perfect training ground for advanced certifications.

In addition to training courses, the site is also regularly offered as a guided exploration for experienced divers, depending on weather and tide conditions.

An intense dive for all levels

This site is not accessible to all divers. It requires good buoyancy control, careful management of descent and bottom time, and well-planned logistics. But for those who take the plunge, the dive is often memorable, with a unique atmosphere and spectacular encounters.
